      Youth Service Awards

• Description: This committee awards $500 scholarships annually to a senior from each of the Missoula County High School, including Loyola, Valley Christian, Big Sky, Sentinel, Hellgate, Frenchtown and Seeley Lake.  Some years we have awarded plaques, in recent years we have given them a wool blanket, embroidered, from the Opportunity Resources ranch.  The primary focus of this award is for service and to recognize outstanding community contributions by students as well as to recognize and reward students that won't necessarily garner a large number of scholarships based solely on academic performance.
• Results we want:  Our club wants to recognize these high school seniors for their exemplary citizenship and outstanding service to the community.  We want to encourage, not only these seniors, but other seniors to commit to exemplary citizenship, and outstanding service.  Recognizing these students supports the Rotary motto of "Service above Self" and encourages students to include community service in their future life goals, to the limits of their ability.
• General Standards:  After the applications are turned in to the committee, Rotary members of this committee will interview all applicants and choose one student from each high school to be the recipient.  The recipients, their parents or a guest, and their counselors will be invited to attend a May luncheon at which the recipients will be recognized and given these $500 scholarships and blankets.
